3 Months

Look who is already 3 months old! I'm not quite sure how that is possible. He is just growing up so fast! Although he is really fun right now. We had a doctor's appointment yesterday to check his hips (they are great and nothing is wrong) but they did measure his weight and length. And we offically have a giant and very quickly growing child. He is almost 15.5 lbs and 26 inches long! He has grown over 2 inches in the past month!

So changes in the past month:
  • Laughing and smiling all the time!
  • We have a fairly consistent routine (although me going back to work has affected that some this week)
  • He talks a lot! I have been attempting to catch this on camera because it is hilarious when we have conversations with him, but he stops talking to us as soon as I get the camera out
  • Jake has outgrown a lot of 0-3 month and 3 month clothes and has started wearing 3-6 month and 6 month stuff, this is sad
  • We have learned that Jake emits mass amounts of heat, which he gets from Josh
  • He found his thumb but also takes the paci a lot better
  • He has started sleeping in his crib some nights
  • He recognizes Josh and I
  • He tolerates tummy time a lot better and can lift his head up and push himself up with his arms
  • He grabs and holds toys and puts things in his mouth

Back to Reality

Yesterday marked the official end of my maternity leave. I headed back to work after 12 fabulous weeks off with my baby. I loved having all that time with him and if I could I would stay at home with him all the time. But until we win the lottery I am back to work. Of course Jake decided that Sunday night was a good night to wake up at 3am to eat and play for an hour. Eventually he went back to sleep and I went back to sleep until the alarm went off at 6am (so much earlier than I have gotten up for the last 3 months!). Jake slept long enough to let me get ready before waking up to eat again. Alexis, the nanny, got here a few minutes early and I headed off to work. I was doing good until I got into the car, then I cried before I even got the car started. Josh left me a card in the car that made me cry more. Once I got to work it was a lot better until someone asked how I was doing (and almost everyone asked!) then I had to fight back tears. But I got through the day.

Jake seems to be adjusting well after a little bit of a slow start eating on Monday. I talked to Alexis and he would only eat half of his first bottle then ate the other half an hour and a half later. He ate his 2nd bottle for her much better and ate his 3rd bottle when Josh got home. When I got home he ate again and ate every hour and a half for the rest of the night until he went to bed. I was sad that he was asleep so soon and I felt like I didn't get much play time with him. I cannot imagine how people that work 40 hours a week go back full force into it after having a baby. I don't know that I would make it if I had to be gone every day.

Today was a little easier because I only had a half day and Tuesdays I am in a meeting most of the time I am there and it is fun. So I kept my mind off being sad. It also really helps that everyone is really understanding.

Jake seems to like Alexis and seems happy to see me when I get home. Although today he was apparently exhausted. He has been asleep for over 4 hours now. I am hoping he wakes up soon though, I don't want him to be awake at midnight ready to play!

No pictures today. I have some but I don't want to deal with uploading them right now. I will post extra pictures next time.

Look what I found!

Eating the hands
Oh, what is this?
Wait, where's that go?
Oh, there it is!

Jake has officially found his thumb. He has been chewing on his hands for a long time and would sometimes get his fingers or thumb in there to chew on, but earlier this week he got that thumb in there and started sucking. I am not really happy about it and we are going to do our best to keep it out of his mouth, but I know that sometimes no matter how hard you try you can't avoid it. I would much rather him have a paci, it is a much easier habit to break as it can be taken away.

In other Jake news, we have been working on sleeping in the crib at night. I am not a fan of this arrangement, I feel like he is way to far away in his bedroom. And after one night Josh, who was all for it at first, was not really a fan either because he didn't hear Jake on the monitor. But we both know that he can't sleep in our room forever! That first night was not a good one though, he was up at 12:30, about 4 hours after we put him down. So he ate and I put him down in the pack n play in our room. He was up again that night another 3.5 hours later. Not a good night sleep for any of us that night. The next night we decided that we would just put him in the pack n play, I had to get up early the next day again and was exhausted. And he slept much better. Last night we decided we would try the crib again, I didn't have to be up early and was pretty rested. He was exhausted after a long day of errands and visiting people so he fell asleep about 8:45 after eating. I put him down in his crib, fully expecting to be getting up by 1am. Josh and I were in bed by 10:30 and the next thing I know we hear Jake crying (well Josh saw the lights on the monitor) I looked at the clock and it was 4:40! Woohoo! First, he slept for 8 hours, second he did it in his crib! Josh went and got him and I fed him and put him down in the pack n play to finish out the night. Our little boy is growing up and I am definitely not a fan of that!

I am headed back to work next week. I don't think I will make it through Monday without crying, a lot. But we found a great nanny who came over yesterday and spent sometime with Jake and I. She is really good with him and he likes her, so that makes me feel a little better. But I don't think anything would make me feel good about leaving him.  So we shall see what happens on Monday.

And for some cute pictures.

Jacob's Baptism

Jake's baptism was yesterday morning. Aunt Eva and Dan came into town on Thursday night for it (Aunt Eva is his Godmother). Jake looked cute and did wonderfully during the baptism. He just started getting a little fussy right at the end, he was wet and tired. But no crying while he was actually baptized, which I was slightly worried about since he sometimes gets fussy when Josh washes his hair. But the Priest that baptized him was great, very entertaining and great with Jake. Everytime he touched Jake he got really calm. After the Baptism we all went over to my mom's house for some lunch. My mom had made her friend Chris' brisket (Dan helped) and Pam made an awesome cake! We had a grat time hanging out with friends and family yesterday and poor Jake was completely exhausted by the time we got home last night!

Short post because there are lots of pictures!

All dressed in his outfit from Aunt Eva, it is super cute!

Nanny Search and the lip

We decided before I was ever pregnant that we would be using a nanny while Jake was an infant. We made that decision for a few reasons, the biggest being we wanted him to have one on one attention that he wouldn't get in a daycare. The other reasons being cost, daycares typically don't take infants part time (well they will but you still pay full tuition), knowing the person watching our child better, and not having to worry about taking him out of his environment every day. So about two weeks ago, we started our search for a nanny to watch Jake when I head back to work. We have one candidate way on top and one more interview tomorrow night. We are really hoping to find someone that is great with Jake but also that makes us comfortable leaving him, at least as comfortable as possible!

So a few posts ago I talked about the pouty lip Jake gives us when he is mad. It's hard to get a good picture of it because we are usually too busy laughing at it to grab the camera and by the time we get the camera the lip is gone. But the other day we were right by the camera and I got a few pictures of it.

And a few bonus pictures of Jake in his robe just because he is cute.

Easter!

We survived our first major holiday with a Jake! Jake was completely spoiled for Easter and got 4 different Easter baskets! Apparently he has a lot of people that love him!

We had a very busy day yesterday and Jake was completely worn out by the time we got home last night. Grams spent the night at our house and we all took our time getting up. Jake checked out his Easter basket (he had gotten one from Grams the day before and one from Grandpa and Grandma when we were in Austin). He got some sunglasses, an Easter bib and an Easter onsie and some of mommy and daddy's favorite candy from the Easter bunny (wasn't the Easter bunny nice to think of mommy and daddy too?!). He got a pool float with a canopy, stuffed lamb, and Easter socks from Grams and a teething ring from Grandma and  Grandpa. We ate some breakfast and got ready for church. I was really excited for Jake to wear his Easter outfit. It is so cute! And we got it big enough so he can wear it a few more times. We took some pictures before we headed to church.

After church we came home and Grams headed home while Josh, Jake and I rested before changing and heading to the Morrow's for Easter dinner. Josh got his fourth Easter basket from the Morrow's. They got him an Easter bib, a swim diaper, and an Easter Bunny. We had a great time hanging out with the Morrow's and the food was fabulous! Jake got passed around for a while, although I might have to watch him around Pam, she might try to keep him! It was a wonderful day and we all crashed when we got home! I love celebrating all these firsts with Jake.
