4th of July
We had lots of fun this weekend celebrating Jake's first Fourth of July. We were planning on going to our community pool on Saturday where they were doing a parade and cookout, but it was foggy and gross when the parade was supposed to happen so we were just going to wait until the cookout. Of course Jake decided to take a nap right when the cookout was supposed to start, but Josh had just gotten back from the store and said there were a lot of people down there. So we figured when he woke up we would head down there, as it was supposed to go until 2pm. Jake got up and we went around noon, it started at 11, and there was no one down there. Boo! So we came home and just hung out for the rest of the day.
Yesterday we headed over to the Morrow's in the afternoon (after making sure Jake got in a good nap because he was up every few hours Saturday night). We swam and had dinner and just hung out and had a nice relaxing day with good friends. On our way home we stopped and watch the fireworks in Mckinney. We just pulled into school parking lot with 5000 other people and watched. Jake seemed to like them, or at least wasn't scared by them, which is what I was afraid of. Poor baby was so exhausted last night though! He went to bed a lot later than normal for him.
Jake also had a big weekend development wise. He has figured out how to roll over to get somewhere now so we put him down in one place and a minute later he is across the living room. I guess we couldn't avoid having a mobile baby forever! And he is offically sitting unassisted. He sat for about 2 minutes the other day and will correct himself if he starts to fall over (until he gets too excited!). Today he has been sitting off and on and will lean forward to pick something up (or grab my hand) and sit himself back up with no problem. It's amazing how fast he got to that point.
We also took lots of pictures this weekend.

5 Months Old
For some reason every month I still can't believe he is one month older. I guess that is how this whole growing up thing works. So Jake is 5 months old. We have had a lot of new stuff going on and that is going to be going on this month. We made our first baby purchase that I was really sad about. We bought a big boy carseat. Jake hasn't outgrown his infant seat but he would much rather be sitting up and he is too big to carry in it anymore. And with the trip to Michigan we figured he would just be much more comfortable in a bigger carseat.
He has also been rolling a lot more. He apparently remembered how to roll from belly to back this week. But he hasn't figured out that he can go from back to belly and back to his back to get places yet. I am happy about that, I am not quite ready for him to be on the move yet! He has been sleeping much better this week. He has FINALLY started taking longer naps. Although they are not consistently at the same times, he more or less gets in 4.5 hours worth of napping during the day. And he is back to just waking up once during the night to eat and going right back to sleep. We have been trying to get to the pool at least twice a week to get Jake in the water. He still likes it and just completely relaxes, followed by lots of splashing himself in the face.
Jake got his first boo boo in a Cosmo v. Jake incident. Jake was laying on our bed and I was playing with him and Cosmo jumped up onto the bed but didn't quite jump high enough so just got her front paws up and was trying to get her back paws on the bed and accidently scratched Jake's leg. He was fine for a few seconds then started screaming and it took a minute for me to get him calmed down. He has three little scratches on the bottom of his leg, but nothing too horrible. I figure this is the first of many, many boo boos for him!
So new things at 5 months for Jake:

So new things at 5 months for Jake:
- Sits up alone for 10-15 seconds
- Rolls back to belly and belly to back consistently
- Sleeping on his belly most of the time now, we put him on his back and he flips over
- He has a big boy carseat (although we haven't started using it yet)
- He would much rather be sitting up or playing on the floor most of the time, but when he wants to be held he is vocal about it
- He likes to chew on his spoons while he sits in the highchair and we eat dinner (no solids yet though)
- Better naps!
- He has been making a lot of new noises us, he is always surprising us and sometimes himself with the random sounds
- He thinks peek-a-boo is hilarious, Cosmo is not a fan of this game
More than being bigger, I can tell he is getting older because this is the first time I have taken this picture that he has been interested in the monkey sitting next to him
Scratches from Cosmo (Cosmo did cuddle with Jake after this happened and he calmed down)

Father's Day
We celebrated Josh's first official Father's Day (we acknowledged it last year since I was pregnant) on Sunday. We went to church then just had a relaxing day around the house. We did head out to the pool and my mom came over and we had a yummy steak dinner. Josh got a great gift from Jake while he was getting him ready for bed. Josh's was putting lotion on him and Jake was talking and started saying dadadadada! Obviously he had no clue what he was saying but it was super cute and really good timing on his part.
Jake had been sleeping much better during the day until today. He has now figured out how to roll in his crib and when he is swaddled. He wakes himself up when he rolls over. We actually took the bumper pads out of his crib at 10 last night because I walked in to go check on him and he had rolled into the side. Of course after we took that out and rolled him back to his back he rolled right back over on his belly and put his face in the matress. And he has decided that he doesn't need to nap today so he has slept for only about 30 minutes (although he is finally taking a real nap right now). He has been doing a lot of rolling and a lot of sitting. He can sit on his own for about 15 seconds before losing his balance. He tries so hard to move forward when he is on his belly, he gets his legs going and his knees underneath him but can't get the top half of his body going! Josh is encouraging this, I am not. I am not ready for my baby to start any sort of crawling!
Well I think that is all that is going on around here, so here are some pictures from the last few days.

Pirate Baby
Yesterday afternoon we headed over to the Morrow's to celebrate Tom's birthday at a pirate themed party in their pool. We ended up being there for a long time and wearing poor Jake out! He was so tired, but of course woke up at the same time he has been for the past 4 days, 4am then 6:20am. So he did a lot of napping today. Actually Josh and I joined in on the napping today, apparently the party wore us out too. But it was a fun party and everyone told us how cute Jake is and what a happy baby he is. I LOVE hearing that and never get tired of it! Although Jake might get sick of hearing that because I tell him that everyday!

School's Out For Summer
That is the biggest news around here. Josh is out for the summer so he gets to spend everyday with Jake monster. Although he is already getting a little stir crazy, he has a hard time when he doesn't get out of the house much. But I think as the summer progresses (and I find things for him to do!) it will get better.
Jake, our normally good sleeping baby, has been having some rough night lately. I don't think he has slept more than 5 hours at a time this entire week. Normally he sleeps a minimum of 6.5 hrs and we were getting usually 3 nights a week that he slept 9+ hours. I'm not sure what is going on. Although I hear that at 4 months babies sometimes go through a wakeful period where they just don't sleep as well. I would be more ok with this if he didn't get some crabby when he is tired. We are really trying to get him to take better naps during the day but he fights those and doesn't always sleep as long as he needs to. Hopefully this passes quickly though.
We have been to the pool a few more times and Jake has figured out how to splash. He splashes himself in the face which startles him but then he gets excited and does it some more. He seems to really like the water, he even tried to eat it the other day and got a face full of water. It didn't phase him too much, which surprised me!
He has also found his feet and really likes to grab them when he is getting his diaper changed, which of course makes changing his diaper challenging at times! I usually just let him lay naked until he is tired of his foot. Possibly a little risky with a boy, but Jake hasn't ever peed on us outside of the bath so I continue to do it.
Now for some pictures. If you notice, he is usually naked in pictures at home, he likes not having clothes on and between his internal furnace and the heat outside he sweats so much, so we just let him hang out without clothes on most days. Of course when we go somewhere he is always clothed!

Finally being ok with tummy time!

4 Month Check Up
We had Jake's 4 month appointment this afternoon. We saw a new doctor in the practice. Josh and I were really hoping we liked her better and she didn't send us to see another specialist like we had to do the last 2 times we went to the doctor. Thankfully we were much happier with this doctor and felt like she listened better and was much more confident in her doctoring ability. When she was checking him out she called him a hoss and said he was perfect. He is growing fabulously and is right on track with average growth (although he is above average in everything, more on that in a second). She also said he has met all but one of his 6 month milestones! Sitting is the only one he hasn't mastered. He was not a fan of his shots (I'm not either so I don't blame him!) and it took a lot longer to calm him down than it did last time. It was so sad when he started screaming.
Ok now the fun stuff, stats:
Weight: 17 lbs 84th percentile
Height: 25.5 inches 68th percentile
Head: 16.75 56th percentile
So above average in everything but growing at the average rate. Sounds like we just have a big boy on our hands!
And late breaking news (as in while I was writing this): Jake just scooted himself about 6-8 inches forward on his belly. WHOA!
