Cute Kid Tricks

Lazy Sunday

We had a nice relaxing day today. We didn't have much to do and what we did have to do was stuff we could get done wthout leaving the house. So after church, we just hung out around the house. We attempted to go to the pool but it was closed due to "fecal contamination." Gross.

So we came home and played with the water hose in the backyard.

Jake wanted to help with the swiffer yesterday, so I put him to work.

Check out Jake's cool new teething necklace. Hopefully it helps as more of his molar come in.

And since she has been blog neglected lately, Cosmo was worn out today and fell asleep like this on the couch. Then she started barking in her sleep.

Paci Free!

Woohoo! We have been paci free for 2 weeks now! Jake had stopped using the paci at Mrs. Mary's a few months ago so we wanted to get rid of it at home too. He only used it at naptime and bedtime and it didn't leave the crib so fortunately we didn't have a whole lot of time to deal with meltdowns. The first week or so he would fuss at naptime for a while before sleeping and used nursing as a replacement to help him fall asleep at bedtime. Unfortunately, he would wake up when I tried to put him down at bedtime, so for the first few days I would rock him after nursing then he would cry for a minute before calming down and sleeping. But this week, no fussing, no nursing to sleep, and no rocking to sleep!

I really tried to avoid even using the paci, but I'm glad we were able to get rid of it pretty easily and early.

One Heck of a Trip...plus some

We headed to Austin this past weekend for a rugby tournament/visit with friends. After a little bit later than planned start down there, we got on the road and were hoping that Jake would fall asleep quickly and sleep most of the way there. Well he had other plans and ended up taking about an hour and a half to fall asleep. Once we got to the Ridenhours house (close to 11pm) Jake decided hedidn't want to go back to sleep. It took probably about an hour to get him to sleep and then it was in the bed with us, not the pack n play. He only slept for about 4 hours before waking up and he was not about to go back to sleep.

Fortunately, he and I were staying at the house and hanging out while Josh headed to the tournament. We swam most of the day, breaking for lunch and a much needed 2.5 hr nap for Jake. We had a blast playing with Gabrielle and Emmylou all day. I am so glad they have a pool though because it was HOT! 106 was the high I believe. All the kids were nice and worn out though. Although you wouldn't have known it the way Jake still fought sleeping that night. We have decided he just doesn't like sleeping in places other than his crib.

We were planning on leaving pretty early the next morning to stop at grandpa and grandma Rodriguez's house and go to breakfast. Here is where the fun really starts. After we got all loaded up and ready to go Josh went to start the car and it was dead. We just assumed it needed a jump so Brad jumped the car and we were on our way. About 3/4 of a mile down the road the car died. We got another jump from Brad after Josh ran (literally) back to their house. We went to Autozone to get the car tested and they said it was the alternator. We called around to the few places that were open to get some quotes and as we were getting ready to leave a mobile mechanic pulls up and connects his better equipment to the car and says no it is just the battery. So we replaced the battery and headed on our way (an hour and a half after the first try). We got to Round Rock, got brunch, and stopped to fill up the car before leaving. After filling up the car Josh tries to turn it back on and nothing. We tried to get a jump from grandpa and nothing. So Jake and I head back to the house and Josh waits for the tow truck to get it towed to the only shop open on a Sunday. The shop told Josh it would be a while before they even got to it to test it so he came back to the house to wait.

In the mean time Jake was playing and fighting a nap. I finally went back into a bedroom and got him to sleep for a little while. I had also talked with my mom who said she would come pick Jake and I up so I could get to work Monday. We hung out for a while just waiting to hear from the car place and if they could get it fixed the next day. We were assuming alternator again and knew that it was a time consuming fix and it was already late. My mom got there about 5pm, literally 2 minutes after that as we were getting ready to walk out the door with all of our stuff, Josh gets a phone call from the repair place. Apparently it was not the battery and not the alternator, it was the connector to the battery. And our car was ready to go.

So we got the car, grabbed some quick dinner, and 10 hours after we originally tried to leave, headed home. With my mom behind us just in case. And we finally got home at 9:30.

But wait, that couldn't be the end of it. We all slept in this morning because we were all exhausted. But I did have to go to work so I got ready and left. I had to stop to get gas (one of the things I was planning on doing when we got home Sunday). After I got gas my car had a difficult time starting and then my check engine light came on. Headed back home to switch cars with Josh so he could take mine in and I could get to work. My car needed 3 new sensors. So we got that taken care of.

And just to top things off, I had a dr's appt Monday afternoon which I left work early for. Dr was running behind but I finally got called back after about an hour and a half of waiting. About 20 minutes later her nurse came in to tell me she got called to go deliver a baby and they didn't know how long that might take so I could wait or reschedule.

It had been a long few days and I am ready for a break! Hopefully the next few days will be much less stressful!

Pool Party

Another busy couple of weekends here. We spent last Saturday at a rugby tournament in Denton, where Jake got his first Jake-sized rugby ball. He loved all the people out there and started a game of toss with a few different random guys. He is just so friendly. He would grab a rugby ball and take it to someone and say please and want them to throw it for him. He was even nice enough to chase down some balls and return them a few times.

Yesterday was spent at the Morrow's for Tom's annual pirate birthday party. We were over there for a little over six hours and I think Jake spent at least 4.5 of those in the water. They had some inflatable turtle ride on float thingys that he loved being swam around on. I am so amused at how much he loves being in the water. We only took him out of his swim diaper for a little while because he wanted right back in the pool and it was too much of a pain to keep changing him between a regular diaper and a swim diaper. Every time he got near the water he was in it. He also figured out how to jump/walk off the edge into the water and just had a blast with that. And as usual, he charmed everyone by saying "hi!" and made sure everyone told him he was cute. When we left there, about an hour after his bedtime, he was out in less than 5 minutes. Kid wore himself out!

In other Jake news, he has started some new fun things at home. He does his happy dance, which he has done for a while randomly, on command now and thinks it is hilarious. He especially loves to follow it with spinning in circles and saying "weeeee!" I got a short video of it one night that I am working on uploading. The first night he started this we all were in his room for about 20 minutes before bedtime laughing hystarically. Of course the more Josh and I laugh, the more he does it and laughs.

Tantrums are also more frequent, although I think we have gotten a pretty good handle on how to deal with them and stop them before they get into all out on the floor tantrums. He usually get frustrated because he is trying to tell us something and doesn't have all the words he needs yet, although sometimes it is because we won't give him what he wants. In the last few days he has started taking our hands and putting them on what he wants or taking us to what it is he wants. I am still amazed at how much he learns every day. I love watching him grow up (even though I am still sad that he is growing up so fast!).

Surprise!

We had a super busy Memorial Day weekend here! Saturday was Josh's 30th birthday and Grandpa and Grandma Rodriguez came up for the weekend. After sending Josh to see a movie with his dad I got started on preping for the surprise party I had been planning for months! After calling Josh to make sure he was headed to the Nike outlet and wasn't going to be home too early, we had a successful surprise party! Josh had no idea, which was great and it was so fabulous to see everyone that could make it! It is so much harder to get together with our friends now so it is always a treat to get to spend sometime with them.

Jake had a blast running around with the Parker's little girl Presley, playing in water, and dumping water on himself. He made it until the last guest left, 9pm! Poor kid was exhausted. But of course, he wouldn't THINK about sleeping in on Sunday morning!

After everyone took a morning nap, Grammy came over (with a wagon for Jake) and we had lunch and headed to the pool. I can't get over how much this kid loves the water. He is a little fish. With a little help from me and Josh he even did a little swimming! Went spent the rest of the weekend just hanging out and trying to catch up on rest. Jake went to sleep an hour early on Sunday night. I think he has finally caught up on his sleep now though!

Happy Birthday!

I tried to get one with Presley and Jake but Presley moves to fast for my camera so they are all blurry!

Goings on

We have been some how keeping ourselves busy, even when we try to have some free time! School is winding down for Josh but work is busy for me which keeps us both going all week. Mother's Day went spent the afternoon at my mom's and Jake got in a "pool" for the first time this year. He actually dove in to the little pool Grams bought for him. And he loved being sprayed with the water hose. He also got his first really bad boo-boo that day. He fell down while running in our driveway and landed face first. He is normally not a crier when he gets hurt, he whines for a moment then calms down pretty quick, but this time it took about 5 minutes to get him calmed down and cleaned up. He had a nasty bump and bruise on his forehead, a scrape on his nose, and a huge scrape above his lip that looked the worst (and stuck around the longest).

Last Sunday we headed to the Morrow's for Chrissy's graduation party. We figured out that when we go somewhere new or are in a new situation Jake still likes to be held until he is comfortable. Once he warmed up though Jake was just a big ham.

We FINALLY got to go to the pool this weekend. We have been trying since April 30th but between random cold spells in May and everything else we have had going on we haven't made it there. I was a little nervous that Jake wouldn't like it because we figured the water would be so cold. Apparently that was a pointless worry, he loved every second of it and threw a tantrum when I got him out because he was shivering! He has no fear of the water and just walks around like it is nothing and jumps into the deep part without any hesitation. So we worked on blowing bubbles and floating. I can't wait for it to warm up some more so we can start swim lessons (mommy taught swim lessons).

We also celebrated our 4th anniversary last Thursday. I can't believe it has been 4 years already.
